Yesterday, we officially said goodbye to Bucharest and made our journey to the capital city of Bulgaria!
And quite a journey it was.
Our first train took us from Bucharest to Ruse, Bulgaria, where we officially got our passports stamped. The ride took about 2 hours and 15 minutes, and the train was decently comfortable.
Southern Romania is a little monotonous. We could definitely tell why Transylvania and the Carpathian Mountains are the main attractions when it comes to Romanian countryside.
We did get to see an interesting landmark at the border! We crossed over the longest steel bridge in all of Europe when we went over the Danube River.
The Danube is the 2nd longest river in Europe, and we will be talking a lot more about it in the coming months! (Hint, Hint)
The stop at Ruse was a little unpleasant. We had to wait outside of the train for about 15 minutes while they processed all of the passports, and it was FREEZING!
It was actually the first snowfall we’ve seen in 2022, believe it or not!
Our second train took us from Ruse all the way to Sofia, which took a little over 6 hours. Despite the long journey, we did see some very pleasing aesthetic going through Northern Bulgaria.
The foothills and mountains all had a fresh dusting of snow from the morning.
The last few hours were tough, since there was no food on the train, and we were running on a croissant and a yogurt for 8 hours. We also lost our pleasant views out of the window once it got dark.
Keep in mind, we were also carrying around our 4 suitcases and 2 backpacks. I had to lift the suitcases on to shelves above the seats in both trains, which was no small task when it came to the two larger ones!
Despite the struggles, we made it safe and sound, and can’t wait to start wandering around Sofia!
As mentioned in a prior newsletter, Sofia is actually one of the oldest cities in Europe, and has recorded human history going all the way back to 7,000 BC!
The city is situated in the Sofia valley under Vitosha Mountain. The combination of ancient religious architecture and mountainous backdrop make this an incredibly picturesque city.
We can’t wait to show you around! As always, please consider subscribing to the YouTube channel if you haven’t yet, and share with absolutely anyone who has an interest in travel!
We are closing in on 200 subscribers and 700 hours of view time, which is well above our expectations for the first 2 months!
We have to keep the momentum going though. Here is the link to the YouTube channel. Let me know in the comments if you have any issues.
Videos are released every 3 days, but you can also set up notifications on your phone so you don’t miss any new content!
Thanks as always for the support. We are looking forward to a new environment and an accelerated schedule of new locations. The next few months are going to be the best yet!
I’ve decided to join you because your trip looks so awesome
Maybe in a month or two
Glad you made it safely, I am looking forward to Sophia! xoxo
